Eligibility, Nomination & Voting
Eligibility
- All films made from January 2022 are eligible for submission
- Short films that have been nominated for the past edition of The Filmjoint Premieres (same year).
- OR referred by Filmjoint Member to be nominated in a category.
- Short films between 5mins to 30mins with complete screen credits.
- Short films with adequate English subtitles if released in a language other than English.
- All Music/Sound used must be original or copyright-free.
- A submission fee of N3,000 is required (this does not apply to nominated films at The Filmjoint Premieres of the same year, and Filmjoint Members).
Nominations & Voting
This Award is open to all filmmakers, however, for non-indigenous filmmakers, the available categories for nominations are:
- Best International Film
- Best African Film
- Best Picture
- Best Documentary Film
- Best Student Film
- Jury Award for Outstanding Storytelling
- Filmjoint Award for Voice of Impact
CATEGORIES FOR THE SECOND EDITION
There are 18 categories, with 11 open for voting. However, after voting, the top three in each category are screened by a Judge and the winner is selected. Out of the remaining 7 categories, 4 are strictly determined by the Judges; Best Picture, Best International Film, Jury Award for Outstanding Storytelling, Best African Film, whilst the final 3 categories - Best Indigenous Film, Best Screenplay (Original or Adapted) and Filmjoint Award for Voice of Impact - are evaluated by the Nomination Panel and Sponsor of the Voice of Impact category, respectively.
The categories open for voting are; Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, Best Sound Design, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Costumier, Best Make/SFX, Best Film Editing, Best Documentary, Best Student Film.
HOW WINNERS ARE DETERMINED
Winners are determined by VOTERS and JUDGES.

HOW WINNERS ARE DETERMINED
Winners are determined by VOTERS and JUDGES.
- Voting Category: The Filmjoint nominate films for each category. The Nominees are voted for and the top three Nominees with the highest votes are screened by the Judge to determine the winner.
- Judging Category: Films in this category are judged individually by the Judges. The result is collated and the film with the highest score wins the category.
HOW VOTES ARE CAST
- To cast a vote, a fee of 500 Naira must be paid. Validated Filmjoint Members are eligible to vote for free. Each Member is allotted 7 votes, while Non-members are allotted 4 votes. Only after payment would votes count. Votes beyond the allotted number will not be counted.
