Distribution & Licensing
WHAT DOES THE DISTRIBUTION ARM OF FILMJOINT ACTUALLY DO?
We distribute curated short films to platforms including VOD, streaming channels, airlines, TV, and event showcases. We act as an intermediary — promoting your film, negotiating exhibition deals, and ensuring your rights are respected.
How Is Revenue Shared?
Revenue is shared on a net basis — that means after platform deductions like transaction fees, hosting costs, and commissions.
Our standard commission is 25%, which covers distribution, marketing, and promotion. You receive 75% of the net revenue
WhenWill I Get Paid?
For pay-per-view or ad-based platforms, we remit your share bi-annually (every 6 months) — along with a simple revenue report.
For upfront licensing deals (e.g., if a platform buys your film or licenses it for a set period), we remit your share within 14 days of receiving payment.
DoIApproveEvery Deal?
Yes. We will never finalize a deal without your written approval. We’ll share platform interest, proposed terms, and wait for your go-ahead before moving forward.
WhatHappens to My Film if I Terminate the Agreement?
If you choose to end your distribution agreement with The Filmjoint, we will immediately stop pursuing new distribution deals for your film.
However, any ongoing licensing agreements already in place will continue until they expire, unless otherwise. This allows us to honour our commitments to the platform and to you. We do not transfer or assign active deals, to maintain trust and protect our distribution relationships.
Will Filmjoint’s Logo Appear on My Film?
Possibly — but only in line with industry standards. Like many distribution platforms, we may display The Filmjoint logo, name, or motion graphic briefly before the main titlesof your film. Your creative credits will remain untouched and fully preserved. Note:We are not currently applying this branding, but we’ve included it here for full transparency and to avoid surprises in the future.
How Can You Use My Film's Promo Materials?
We may use trailers, stills, posters, and short clips (usually few seconds) to promote:
Your film
Filmjoint's platform
Our public events or awards
It is important to note that we cannot limit our ability to feature past works, nominations, or winners in our marketing and promotional efforts for The Filmjoint platform or its events. That said, we are careful not to misrepresent or exploit filmmakers’ materials, and we do not use them for unrelated third-party endorsements without prior notice and approval.
Who’s Responsible If Something Goes Wrong?
You indemnify Filmjoint against issues related to your film’s ownership, copyright, or content. We take responsibility for our own errors — including any gross negligence in how we manage your film.
Can I Talk Directly to the Platforms?
No — part of our work is managing those relationships. All communication with platforms goes through Filmjoint.
What If I Don’t Like the Terms?
You’re free to walk away — and we completely respect that. This partnership is voluntary. Our goal is to support filmmakers without pressure or confusion.
How Long Does the Agreement Last?
The Filmjoint Distribution Agreement has an initial term of two (2) years from the signing date. After that, the agreement may be renewed by mutual written agreement between you and The Filmjoint. You can also choose to part ways once the term ends if you no longer wish to continue.
Can I Distribute My Film Elsewhere While Signed with Filmjoint?
Yes. Our agreement is non-exclusive, which means you retain the right to distribute your film elsewhere — including through other aggregators, film festivals, or platforms — unless otherwise stated in a specific sublicensing deal that requires exclusivity (which would require your approval).
What Territories Does Filmjoint Cover?
The Filmjoint distributes films worldwide, unless a platform requests regional exclusivity. If any such request arises, we will get your written consent before proceeding.
Can My Film Be Considered for Filmjoint Events or Awards?
Yes. Films in our distribution catalog are automatically considered for Filmjoint Premieres and The Filmjoint Awards (TFA), based on programming decisions. We'll notify you if your film is selected.
What Materials Do I Need to Submit?
To distribute your film, we’ll typically need:
A high-quality export of your film
Trailer (if available)
Poster and promotional stills
Synopsis and logline
Any available press kits or BTS assets
You’ll receive a checklist after signing.
Can I Withdraw My Film From a Platform?
Not during an active licensing term. Once a platform has agreed to host your film (e.g., for 6 or 12 months), we’re obligated to honour that agreement. You cannot withdraw the film mid-term. However, if you end your Filmjoint agreement, no new deals will be made and the film will be pulled from future circulation after existing licenses expire
